This homepage is intended to give access to the important spiritual heritage left after Sri Shyam Sundar Goswami with online publication of his teachings and lectures. Essentially inspired by traditional Ashtanga Yoga, the contents made accessible here are a unique first-hand source of knowledge.
The present Goswami Yoga Institute has its origin at the beginning of the past century at a time when the father
of Sri Shyam Sundar Goswami decided to establish the Goswami Institute of Yoga and Physical Education in Santipur, Northern Bengal. The Goswami Yoga Institute established by his eponymous founder in 1949 in Stockholm, Sweden, is probably the oldest Yoga institute in Europe.
Adopted to the needs of modern life Sri S S Goswami's teaching, most transmitted orally, was faithful to ancient
Yoga tradition. Goswami was uninterruptedly busy until the time of his demise, on October 13th 1978.
He conducted Hatha Yoga classes along with his assistant Mrs. Karin Schalander. Besides conducting classes,
the Yoga Master carried out an intensive research work while delivering lectures most regularly with occasional Yoga demonstrations at different institutions.
After 1978, the Hatha Yoga classes continued under the leadership of Sri Goswami’s closest disciples
Karin Schalander and Basile P. Catoméris.
In 2010 Shyam Sundar Goswami's private library with its unique collection of Yoga literature was donated to the Lund University in Sweden.
In May 2011 The Goswami Foundation was established, with the aim of perpetuating the development of
Yoga according to the spiritual heritage left by its renown protagonist.
The foundation is supporting this website and endeavouring to publish relevant Yoga literature.
Today the Goswami Yoga Institute offers Hatha Yoga classes in Sweden and France under the responsibility of
Basile P. Catoméris, who delegated his own Stockholm Yoga classes to his close diciple, Mrs Renée Lord.
